Bretton Woods off to a great and snowy start to the ski season!
With over two feet of natural snow in the last two weeks complemented by around-the-clock snowmaking, Bretton Woods has more than half of its 464 acres open for skiing and riding.
Bretton Woods’ unique location sandwiched between Franconia and Crawford Notches and the Presidential Range brings conditions that aren’t always found in nearby towns – a phenomenon commonly referred to by locals as the “Bretton Woods flurries.”
“I travel from the Mount Washington Valley to Bretton Woods every day. I often leave for work under blue skies and arrive in Bretton Woods where the snow is falling,” says Alexa Bernotavicz, Assistant Director of Ski Area Operations. “It really is like working in a snow globe. Just because you don’t have snow in your backyard it doesn’t mean the conditions up at Bretton Woods aren’t fantastic”
For the upcoming holiday week, Bretton Woods is offering skiing and riding until 8pm December 26-January 1. With all the new snow and cold temperatures, all lifts will be operating and you can enjoy wide open cruisers or spend some time swooshing under snow-laden trees in the glades. There will be après ski entertainment in the Slopeside Pub along with the ever-popular supervised après ski parties for kids age 4-12.
For more information and the latest snow conditions, call the snowphone at 603-278-3333 or visit www.brettonwoods.com. Or to make reservations at the Omni Mount Washington Resort, guest can call 1-800-The-Omni or visit www.omnimountwashingtonresort.com.

THE OMNI MOUNT WASHINGTON RESORT USHERS IN SKI SEASON 2010-2011 WITH NEW DEVELOPMENTS FROM BASE TO PEAK
BRETTON WOODS, N.H. – The Omni Mount Washington Resort in Bretton Woods, New Hampshire, is kicking off ski season 2010-2011 with new developments on the slopes, new renovations at the resort, special savings and a host of seasonal activities across every elevation. Located in New Hampshire’s largest ski area – including the east’s highest peak – the Omni Mount Washington Resort will be warming the hearts of winter adventurers and family travelers alike.
New Gladed Acres: Skiers and snowboarders will be delighted to find the Bretton Woods ski area is bigger and better than ever with the recent addition of 30 gladed acres on Mt. Stickney. The first development in a long-awaited expansion of Mt. Stickney, the new glades offer a classic New England “back-country experience,” with a long traverse off the “Two Miles Home” ski trail. The glades access a variety of terrain riddled with secret powder stashes, sharp tree chutes and the classic manicured glade skiing for which Bretton Woods has long been renowned. With the 30 additional acres, the Bretton Woods ski area now adds up to 464 skiable acres, with 102 trails and glades dressed with 200+ inches of annual snowfall on average.
A Wealth of Winter Activities: Travelers can look forward to numerous winter activities in the snow-covered expanse surrounding the Omni Mount Washington Resort. Try skiing and snowshoeing over 100 kilometers of trails amid three distinct, interconnected trail systems, with rentals available at the Bretton Woods Nordic Center. The enormously popular Bretton Woods Canopy Tour runs year-round, with ten zip lines soaring through the trees and a descent of more than 1,100 feet of elevation. Resort and public guests alike can take advantage of the attractive “Zip and Ski” ticket which includes a full day of Bretton Woods skiing and a Canopy Tour pass from just $129. New this year are the “Ski & Spa” offer for $129 including a half day ski ticket and 50-minute spa treatment, and the “Zip & Spa” including a Canopy Tour and 50-minute spa treatment for $140.
The faint and not-so-faint of heart can sample everything from ice skating onsite; ice climbing with experienced guides from the International Mountain Climbing School; snow tubing over hills of packed powder; dog sledding through the wilderness; sleigh and carriage rides and more.
New Resort Renovations: Whatever their experience on the mountains, guests will find a warm welcome at the historic property that is heading into winter fresh from the latest phase of a comprehensive, $60 million expansion and renovation. All guest rooms, suites and corridors of the Omni Mount Washington Hotel have been spruced up with new color schemes, wall coverings and artwork. Several casual dining venues have been re-conceived, including The Cave –an original Prohibition Era speakeasy, now dressed up in a classic English style – and Stickneys, a newly designed pub-style steakhouse appealing to the American sportsman in all of us. Family-style diners will enjoy Fabyan’s Station set in a former train station arrayed with vintage railroad art and faux-train track flooring. The 1,400 square-foot Family Suite was also added, complete with a living room, fireplace and two separate children’s rooms.
The resort’s reputation as a cold weather hotspot is well-established, with recognition including placement among the “Top 50 Ski Hotels” for the Omni Mount Washington Hotel from Condé Nast Traveler (‘04, ’05, ’07, ’09); one of the “Top 5 in the East” for weather, grooming, snow, service, scenery and family programs from SKI Magazine (’06-’09); and an Editor’s Choice for the “Best Zipline Experience” for the Bretton Woods Canopy Tour from Yankee Magazine in 2010.
Enjoy a winter getaway and minimum $136 nightly savings with the Stay Here, Ski Free Package at the Omni Mount Washington Resort. Package includes: Luxury resort accommodations and two ski lift tickets at the famed Bretton Woods ski area. Rates start from $199 per night based on double occupancy through April 15, 2011. Jason Parajeckas Wins New England Open Championship at the Omni Mount Washington Resort
~~For Immediate Release~~
September 16, 2010
Bretton Woods, NH. – Paul Parajeckas, PGA, has been one of the most consistently excellent players in the New England section of the PGA for more than three decades. On this cool, crisp and, most importantly, clear fall day, his son Jason proved that the apple does not fall far from the tree.
The younger Parajeckas fashioned an 8-under par 64 to come from four shots off the lead to win by one, over 36-hole leader Ron Philo Jr., PGA (Stowe Mountain Club).
Jason, who works as an assistant professional under his father at Pleasant Valley CC (Sutton, MA) was even par for his round, as he stepped to the tee on the par five sixth hole. A monstrous drive and a pitching wedge to a foot, was the beginning of a 10-hole stretch he played in eight under par. The streak included four consecutive birdies on holes 10 - 13.
Philo kept it interesting to the end, narrowly missing a birdie attempt on 18, which would have tied him for the lead. Finishing four off the pace was a trio of Scotts; Scott Spence, PGA (Middletown, RI), Scott Berliner (Albany, NY) and Scott Hawley (Shrewsbury, MA)
Parajeckas was humbled by the win, his first major victory in New England. The recent University of Connecticut golf team member is finishing his third season as a professional and is looking forward to a second attempt at PGA TOUR qualifying school this fall.
“My father didn’t even pay my entry fee this time, so I get to keep the whole thing!” said Parajeckas, not long after Philo’s bid to tie slid by the cup. He was then congratulated by many fellow professionals, not to mention a big bear hug from a very proud father.
One of the other winners this week was the newly redesigned Mount Washington course at the Omni Mount Washington Resort. Brian Silva, working off plans drawn up by Donald Ross, has created a true gem on the Mount Washington valley floor. Despite some challenging weather the first two days, every competitor came away impressed with the quality of the layout and the conditions.
A big reason for the success of the event was Golf Course Superintendent Dave Ousterhaut and his crew. The course was in great condition leading into the event and, through much hard work on their part, the course proved its mettle.
The New England Open Championship will return to the Omni Mount Washington Resort on September 12 – 15, 2011.

3/13/2010: Bretton Woods Nordic Marathon
Olympians Victorious at the New England Ski Museum’s Bretton Woods Nordic Marathon
Rounding out the top three for the 50-K men’s race were Tim Whiton (Portland, Maine), a coach at Bowdoin College and Phil Lawson (Bethlehem, N.H.) Following Wonsavage in the women’s 50-K were Alison Crocker (Amherst, Mass.) and Joann Hanowski (Underhill Center, Vt.) Placing second and third in the Men’s 25-K race were St. Lawrence University racer Adam Terko (Shelburne, Vt.) and Charlie Gunn (Henniker, N.H.) who was that event’s first Master racer. Janey McClelland (Keene Valley, N.Y.) another UVM racer was second in the women’s 25-K race; she was followed by third place finisher, St. Lawrence University skier Leah Hart (Meredith, N.H.)
The New England Ski Museum conducts the Bretton Woods Nordic Marathon as a fund-raising event, and the event appeals to a wide variety of Nordic skiers, including serious Masters-age racers, a smattering of collegiate racers and a growing number of more casual citizen racers and recreational skiers. This year a total of 182 people signed up to compete or participate in either the 25-K or 50-K distance. There was an option to be a part of the event on an untimed basis, and a growing number of skiers elect to ski in that category and enjoy the challenge while socializing with friends.
The event enjoyed outstanding support by local, regional and national sponsors including Omni Mount Washington Resort, CNL Lifestyle Properties, SWIX, Northeast Delta Dental, Coca Cola/Powerade, World Cup Supply, Darn Tough and Chutter’s. Complete results for the event are posted on the website: www.brettonwoods.com, (follow links to Nordic skiing and racing.)
The New England Ski Museum is currently exhibiting artifacts from Nordic skiing’s origins in the mountains of Asia and displays that depict the sport’s development in the U.S. More information on the event and the New England Ski Museum, including membership applications and a link to the museum’s online store, is available at www.skimuseum.org.

PR: Bretton Woods Nordic Center Hosts 15-km Geschmossel Classic Nordic Ski Race
Originally staged during the winter of 1972-73, the Geschmossel is one of New England’s oldest citizens’ races. The race originated as a 6-kilometer fun race and grew to attract high-level skiers, including members of the United States Ski Team. The original race course at Bretton Woods was groomed using a homemade track sled that was pulled by a rope fastened to a grooming machine. This year’s Geschmossel provided skiers with a double-tracked surface set by a state-of-the-art Pisten Bulley grooming machine. Today’s Bretton Woods trails are also considerably wider and smoother than those of the early 1970s. Now that The Mount Washington Hotel is open year-round, the mass start can easily be viewed from The Mount Washington Hotel’s Conservatory, or outside from the Hotel’s fabled Veranda.
There were 94 participants in this year’s Geschmossel, and awards were presented to the top three finishers in men’s and women’s categories and the winners of separate age groups. Overall, Tucker Murphy of Stowe, VT, finished in first place with a time of 53:26; Phil Lawson of Bethlehem, NH, came just behind in second place at 53:28 overall, and took first place in the Grand Master Men category; and Chris Nice of Hanover, NH, finished third overall with a time of 56:04. For the women, Kelsey Allen of Franconia, NH, was the first to finish with a time of 1:00:03. Ruth Hall of Cumberland Center, ME, came in second in the Women’s division at 1:04:47, and placed first in the Grand Master Women category; and Cheryl Carlson of Lebanon, NH, came third in the Women’s results with a time of 1:05:47. First place finishers for the Great Grand Master category were Doug Armstrong of North Conway, NH, with a time of 57:16 for the men, and Sally Swenson of North Conway, with a time of 1:16:28 for the women. The complete Geschmossel race results can be found on-line at the following link: www.brettonwoods.com/geschmossel.

Mount Washington Resort awarded Best of BRIDE "Best Honeymoon Spot" for 2009!

Mount Washington Resort has been selected by the readers of New Hampshire Magazine's BRIDE as "Best of BRIDE 2009" for Best Honeymoon Spot. The winners, who were selected in an online poll, will be listed in the next issue of BRIDE, coming in September.
"It's the magazine's first annual poll," says Barbara Coles, editor of BRIDE. "We felt the poll was a way to recognize people in NH's bridal industry who strive every day to provide great service for couples who are planning one of the most important days in their life. We also wanted to give those who benefit from the training, experience and expertise of wedding professionals a chance to express their satisfaction."
BRIDE is a twice-yearly publication of New Hampshire Magazine, the state's largest lifestyle magazine.

NEWS: Omni Hotels to Manage Mount Washington Resort
IRVING, Texas (August 17, 2009) -- Omni Hotels announces today it has partnered with CNL Lifestyle Properties, Inc., to become the long-term operator of the storied Mount Washington Resort located in Bretton Woods, NH, at the base of beautiful Mount Washington, the highest peak in the Northeast. Opened in 1902, the resort is home to 365 guest rooms in three lodging facilities -- The Mount Washington Hotel, the Bretton Arms Inn and The Lodge -- and serves as a wonderful setting for leisure guests and meeting professionals alike. Omni Hotels will begin management of the luxury New England resort, which will be flagged as the Omni Mount Washington Resort, on September 1, 2009.
“We are pleased to add this extraordinary property to the Omni Hotels’ portfolio, given its fine heritage, the exceptional destination facilities and broad range of year-round leisure and outdoor activities,” said Mike Deitemeyer, president of Omni Hotels. “The addition of this resort is another tremendous step in our strategic expansion.”
The Mount Washington Resort serves as a natural haven for visitors, offering an array of seasonal activities. During the winter months, guests can enjoy skiing and snowboarding at nationally acclaimed Bretton Woods, as well as sleigh rides, dog-sledding, ice skating, snowshoeing and ice climbing. In the summer, guests can enjoy two championship golf courses, tennis, horseback riding, hiking, and fly fishing on the Ammonoosuc River. The resort is also home to the world-class Bretton Woods Canopy Tour, featuring a one-of-a-kind 3.5-hour zip line adventure from treetop to treetop through the beautiful ancient forest of Rosebrook Canyon.
The resort recently completed a multimillion restoration and renovation project that includes a new 25,000-square-foot state-of-the-art spa, a 20,000-square-foot conference center, an outdoor swimming pool complex and guest rooms at the Mount Washington Hotel. CNL Lifestyle Properties has committed to invest an additional $10 million in future renovations, including additional guest rooms, plus food and beverage venues and public areas. Other improvements include the restoration of the 18-hole Mount Washington Course -- owned and operated by Crosland/Celebration Associates -- based on the original 1915 Donald Ross design.
“As we complete the renovation and expansion, we are pleased to transition to Omni Hotels, a respected operator with national sales distribution channels and experience in marketing historic properties,” said R. Byron Carlock, Jr., CEO and president of CNL Lifestyle Properties, Inc.
The resort is surrounded by nearly 800,000 acres of the White Mountain National Forest. It is a two-and-a-half hour drive from Boston and Portland, three hours from Montreal and Providence, six hours from New York and is within two hours of the Manchester, NH airport.
The historic resort is renowned for hosting the Bretton Woods International Monetary Conference in 1944 where delegates established the World Bank and International Monetary Fund, the gold standard was set at $35 an ounce and the American dollar became the benchmark for international exchange. Past guests include Thomas Edison, Babe Ruth and three US Presidents.
